ParrisWhittaker Named Finalist In 2017 Lloyd’s List Americas Awards

Maritime and shipping law firm ParrisWhittaker became a finalist for the prestigious 2017 Lloyd’s List Americas Awards today, and will compete against five other firms for Law Firm of the Year at a New York City gala on May 25.

Lloyd’s List, one of the longest-running publications in the world, has been delivering insights on the world of shipping since 1734, and its annual maritime awards are the only of its kind to cover North, South and Central America.

As evidence of its trend-setting maritime advocacy, ParrisWhittaker submitted the work of partner Kenra Parris-Whittaker, who secured a major victory at the UK Privy Council in 2016 after years of appeals. Representing the Cape Bari oil tanker, which had collided with a jetty owned by the Bahamas Oil Refining Company (BORCO), the Privy Council ruled that Cape Bari retained its limitations on accident liability, shielding it from $22 million in damages.

The Lloyd’s List awards put a premium on the people and companies that demonstrate innovation and hard work in many categories, including maritime services, ship operator, port operator, training, seafarer advocate, safety and environmental performance, and “Deal of the Year,” among others.
