As the Tribune recently reported, the Bahamas retains its position as one of the most sought-after venues for luxury resorts. The region’s reputation as an island paradise keeps it firmly among the world’s top spots as a tourist destination – and the tourism industry has been one of the stalwarts of the economic recovery.
Few resorts can match the legendary One and Only for beauty and luxury – a fact which has caught the eye of Argentine developer Alan Faena and his Ukrainian-born billionaire partner, Len Blavatnik (ranked by Forbes as the 39th richest person in the world).
The deal has not yet been sealed – but there are rumours of a likely purchase price of between $85 million and $130 million, and the Tribune reports that lawyers are poised to complete the transaction. As the paper says, “if the One and Only Club purchase closes, the Bahamas may gain two investors of considerable means.”
All of this will be music to the ears of those keen to see the Bahamas continue to affirm its position as a serious player in the global financial markets. Few things are more certain indicators of an economic recovery than serious investment from serious investors – and this purchase signals a renewed confidence that can only augur well for the future of the Bahamas.
