Nassau, New Providence – Kenra Parris-Whittaker, local Maritime law expert and partner at ParrisWhittaker is proud to announce that she has been appointed as Chairperson of the Maritime Committee of The Bahamas Bar Association.

“This is a crucial time for a lot of maritime businesses in our community, and I am incredibly proud to represent their interests on the Maritime Committee. This is truly an honour, and it’s a responsibility I take very seriously,” said Parris-Whittaker.

“There is a lot of important legislation being discussed in the maritime sector right now. The next few months and years could shape how the next few decades look in this area.”

The Bahamas Bar Association is a regulatory organization, providing oversight to, and governing, all lawyers practicing law in The Bahamas. Officers are elected by the members of the Bahamas Bar Association.

“We’re entering a recovery stage of sorts. The signs of a post-COVID world are emerging and cruise lines have returned to the water. That obviously poses a lot of new challenges and raises a lot of new questions we’ve never had to address before,” said Parris-Whittaker.

Before becoming a partner at ParrisWhittaker, Kenra was a senior associate litigating commercial, probate and maritime cases at globally recognized Callenders & Co. Nassau-born and Canadian/ UK-educated, she received her Bachelors of Law from the University of Buckingham, Law and attended the Inns of Court School of Law. She has litigated on both sides of the courtroom, leveraging strengths in both discovery and research to formulate incisive inquiries and powerful positioning for resonating results.

“The Bahamas is one of the biggest registries for vessels. More traffic means more complications, potential issues, and steps that need to be taken to ensure safety and fairness for everyone involved,” said Parris-Whittaker.

“The role of this committee is to ensure that everyone has a voice.”
