Moved by an abiding interest in the well-being of young people, ParrisWhittaker sought a means of providing meaningful support to the school, resulting in the sizeable contribution to the sports and recreation resources. “It is important to recognize that raising well-rounded children requires a holistic approach,” said Parris, “One that takes not only their academics into account, but also considers the importance of physical education and recess. Some of our region’s best athletes discovered their skills on the playgrounds or playing fields.”
Parris, who went beyond simply handing over the soccer balls to actually addressing the school, spent time with the youngsters, encouraging them to maximize their education opportunities, including those in the realm of sports. “Sports have contributed so much to our region’s development,” he reminded them, “It’s exciting to imagine that the next great athlete could be right here in front of us. Today we promise to support our young sportsmen and women. You are never too young to be great.”
Mr. Eon Austin, head coach at Sunland Baptist Academy, was on hand to receive the donation. He was surrounded by several beaming students who seemed fully aware of what the gift would mean to them, and deeply appreciative.
Before leaving, Parris, Austin and several members of the grateful school community took the time to pose for several official photos. However, it was the vibrant, radiant candid shots of delighted children that captured the spirit of the day even more successfully.
