Freeport, Grand Bahama, April 11, 2015 – The streets of Freeport came to life with the sounds of love, laughter and some exertion at the third annual Special Olympic Grand Bahama Chapter 5K Run/Walk.

The walk, sponsored by ParrisWhittaker, began at the Grand Bahama Port Authority and wound its way along Mall Drive around Ranfilly Circle and back, with enthusiastic participants, excited to complete the race and carry out the mission of raising funds and boosting the profile of the Special Olympics team and their athletic needs.

The walk, which raises funds to support the Special Olympic team, also seeks to raise awareness of the team and its needs in its training endeavours as well as its Olympic efforts.

“It’s a beautiful thing to be a part of this team, “ says Kenra Parris-Whittaker, founding partner of the ParrisWhittaker, the boutique law firm at the helm of this year’s 5K staging. “Not many people truly appreciate the discipline, determination and genuine athletic prowess of those with disabilities. We want to be a part of changing that. When we look at our Special Olympics team, we see Bahamians with strength, focus and talent. It’s time more of us realized that. We stand by them, and hope that more and more Bahamians will join this extended team of supporters and believers.”

Not only was there a robust turnout, with walkers ranging in age from 5 to 62, but several members of the Special Olympics team were present too, revelling in the atmosphere of support and solidarity.

As the race wound down, a few hours after its 5pm start, participants and spectators alike celebrated with those who won prizes for placing in the top three. The general feeling was one of having accomplished a mission, and ParrisWhittaker will remain committed to seeing it through.
